The Utah Gov. Records Access and Management Act (GRAMA) can be found in Title 63 G Chapter 2 of the Utah Code and defines what is and is not considered 'public' record and outlines the rights and responsibilities for both the people and the state in regards to 'public' records access and maintenance. Section 201 specifically defines and differentiates between 'public,' 'controlled,' and 'protected' records, as well as outlines the right of the citizen to inspect and or copy them. What constitutes 'controlled' and/ or 'protected' data is further defined in subsequent sections of the statute. For a list of what is generally exempt from disclosure, click here.
Section 502 of the Code provides for a State Records Committee, who determines the schedules for retention and disposal of records as well as arbitrates any appeals or hearings in regards to records access denials.
