New Hampshire Public Records

The New Hampshire Right to Know Law (Title VI, Chapter 91-A) is the set of statutes set forth by the NH state government to ensure greater public access to the proceedings and records created, held and maintained by the NH public body. The statutes define 'Governmental Records' as any information created, accepted, or obtained by or on behalf of any public body or agency as part of it's function. The definitions continue to include all writings or other information including audio, images and video in whatever form they exist in whether physical or electronic.

Records that are expressly NOT available for public access include:

  • Grand and Petite Jury Records
  • Parole and Pardon Records
  • Personal School Records of Students
  • Teacher Certification Records not including Teacher Certification Status
  • Emergency Planning and Response Strategy Records
  • Records that contain confidential information including personal identification either alone or in correlation to school, medical, taxation, licensing, welfare, employment or library user information
  • Materials that do not in some way have an official purpose
  • Trade Secrets
