Mississippi Public Records

The Mississippi Public Records Act MPRA defines public records as “all books, records, papers, accounts, letters, maps, photographs, films, cards, tapes, recordings or copies of recordings, and any other documentary materials” reflecting the activity of and/or  maintained by any public body. 

Exceptions:

All records containing personal identifying information, or any information that disclosure would constitute a violation of personal privacy, or otherwise hinder or obstruct the normal functions of government are considered non-public. 

This includes:  academic papers, appraisals, archaeological records, attorney records, birth defects registry, charitable registration information, concealed weapons licenses, certain environmental, hospital, and individual tax records, insurance records, certain judicial and jury, medical examiner, open investigations, personnel, and trade secret documents.
